The Cushing Library Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Collection

This has been a pretty spectacular week, thus far, so I really don't know where to begin with all of the good news. Not a bad problem to have, I'd say! I suppose I'll start with the most incredible development, which, even as I write this, I am absolutely in shock over.

Last night I received the most phenomenal correspondence from a lead archivist at The Cushing Library at Texas A&M University regarding my work as a science fiction and fantasy writer. They have extended the invitation to yours truly to have my work added to the archive as part of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Collection! Not only are they interested in adding my novels as part of their collection, but the chronicle of my life as an author so that, to quote the email, "when people write the biography of Gabrielle Faust" they will have a complete resource. I'm nearly speechless at this honor.

This is what authors dream about (asides from becoming the next J.K. Rowling or Anne Rice), that their work will be preserved and their lives remembered. So much of an author's life is about struggle—we write because it is our passion and because we would cease to exist if we did not tell the world our various stories. The fact that my work will be preserved for future generations to view and experience is absolutely astonishing and brings me to tears just thinking about it. Also, the fact that my hard work has garnered the respect of a university library is mind-blowing. Talk about motivation to continue on fighting the good fight!

I'll be blogging more about the process of submitting materials to the archives as time progresses. This will be a lifelong endeavor—time to being an exciting new chapter of life. I have several additional updates on upcoming events and endeavors, but will post about them tomorrow. So, be sure to check back! Like I said, it's been an exciting week!
