What has killer unicorns, Amazon women, horrible clumsy robots, chainmail garbed royal command, cute fuzzy minature donkeys, frog women, space chases through time warps and, we can’t forget, swash-buckling pirates? That would be the 80′s space comedy Ice Pirates! This evening the movie selection for our weekly “bad movie night” was this fine piece of cinematic debauchery. I must say, I am still trying to decide what to make of this mess of a film, but I do know that I laughed pretty hard throughout most of it. It is simply one of the most ridiculous movies I have ever seen and I highly recommend checking it out sometime. It is as if the writers got together in a room with a lot of alcohol and, since it was the 80′s, coke and wrote down every single fantasy and sci-fi idea they had and then threw it all into a bucket from which they would draw the next scene. “And in this scene we will have…Amazon women riding killer unicorns, androids and…an ocelot! Pass me another beer!” Random doesn’t even begin to describe Ice Pirates and I have to thank my friend Jon for bringing this one to movie night or otherwise my life never would have been touched and moved in such a profound way.
