Tipsy Texan

Those people who know me best are well aware of my passion for the perfect martini. Therefore, when I came across the Tipsy Texan blog (www.tipsytexan.com), authored by an old high school pal of mine David Stooksberry (a.k.a. David Allen), I simply had to share it with all of you. It is primarily focused on the creation of fabulous cocktails listing new recipes on a daily basis, but recently they have begun to focus more on “drinking locally”. What does this mean? It means creating cocktails from alcohols made in local distilleries. This supports the local, sustainable economy and reduces pollution due to the cutting back of transportation needed to import products from outside the city/state. It’s a brilliant idea and one that Austin, Texas has been embracing wholeheartedly this past year. Tonight the Tipsy Texan is sponsoring the Tipsy Texan Drink Local Cocktail Contest, tonight at the Monarch from 6-9pm, as part of Edible Austin Magazine’s Eat Local Week. Several local martini masters will be competing to create the best cocktail using local spirits. It is free to the public so show up early to support them! David will also be there whipping up his latest concoction! Best of luck to him!
