St. Louis, Missouri’s The Lemp Mansion is recognized as one of the most haunted sites in America. The Mansion was the home of the Lemp family, who were at one time the richest family in Saint Louis. Their good fortune came to pass and tragedy after tragedy beset the family. Multiple suicides, a possible murder and tales of a possible illegitimate kept locked in the attic his entire life all are part of the tragic history of the Lemp family. The final suicide to occur at the mansion happened on today’s date in 1949, as Charles Lemp first shot his dog and then took his own life on the stairs leading to the second floor.
Since the mid-1970s, the mansion has served as a restaurant and inn. Spectral sounds, phantom piano music as well as outright appearances of apparitions have been witnessed by staff and visitors to the Lemp Mansion. Two of the spirits have been nicknamed the “Lavender Lady” and the “Monkey Face Boy”.
