One of the most original indie vampire films to come out of the modern day obsession with the undead genre is the 2010 release starring Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe entitled Daybreakers. If you missed my review earlier this year it is still up on my Examiner column. Click here to read it. Unfortunately, Daybreakers is now out of the theaters, but a DVD release date is now set for June 1st. According to the report on Shock-Til-You-Drop the DVD will include “in-depth bonus materials including the featurette, “Making of Daybreakers,” audio commentary with the directors, Michael and Peter Spierig, and special effects creator Steve Boyle, a poster gallery and the theatrical trailer” while the Blu-Ray set will have “an extended feature-length version of the “Making of Daybreakers” that spans the filmmaking process, a short film from the directors entitled “The Big Picture,” Bonus View Storyboard and Animatics film comparison and a second disc containing digital copy.” Sounds excellent! I highly recommend you add this to your Netflix cue or mark it on your calendar to rent this flick as soon as it is available if you are a true vampire film fan!
