Films and television are not the only theatrical venues to be inspired in the past few years by the tireless modern fascination with the vampire genre. Playwrights and musical producers have also tapped into their inner undead. From the current battle to bring Dracula back to Broadway to smaller productions throughout the United States, vampires have become the most passionate new expression of art in acting. Now an announcement about a new musical has made its way from London! After 15 years since the score was originally written, Vampire Heart is now set to makes its world premiere Thursday at the Imperial Palace in London, England.
“The excitement is it’s an original work and it’s really high quality,” White said to IfPress. “People I’ve heard talking about it are excited that we’ve got an original musical. It’s like, ‘Really? We have that much talent in Sarnia? Yes. We have that much talent in Sarnia.’”
The musical is based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, but with a romantic twist. The tale is similar in that Dracula moves to London along with his trio of undead wives and promptly falls in love with Mina. However, the directors promise a far more passionate tale than that portrayed in the original novel. Allan David Hill and Glenn Kennedy promise a thrilling score of musical numbers from the sweet and sensual to a crowd pleasing chorus number from the 35 person cast entitled “Rid the Town of Him”.
Vampire Heart is currently running at the Imperial Theater at 7:30pm. For more information visit http://www.vampireheart.ca/ or find them on Facebook.
