Could real-life scientists stop a Daybreakers-style global outbreak without resorting to wooden stakes? “In this scenario, if you’re bitten, there’s close to 100 percent probability of becoming infected,” says Christopher Crnich, an infectious disease expert and faculty at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. “There aren’t any infections out there with that level of transmission efficiency. In this case, a couple of parameters in transmission dynamics are clearly unique, and we don’t have a real world model we can extrapolate from.” But as far-fetched as the “disease” may be, there are certain steps doctors, scientists and officials always take when analyzing an outbreak…
