Author Interview: Liz DeJesus

Liz DeJesus

Liz DeJesus was born on the tiny island of Puerto Rico. She is a novelist and a poet. She is the author of the novel Nina (Blu Phi’er Publishing, October 2007)and The Jackets (Blu Phi’er Publishing, November 2008). Under the pen-name Isabelle Rose she is the author of Naughty Fairy Tales (Lulu.com). Liz currently lives in Elsmere, Delaware with her husband Kurt.

1. What drives you to write?

The desire to tell a good story. The feeling I get when I pick up a pen and feel it scratching against a sheet of paper. Sometimes I feel if I don’t get my thoughts on paper quick enough my brain will explode.

2. What do you consider to be your most significant accomplishment?

Besides getting published…I would have to say that the most significant accomplishment is marrying the love of my life. I know…very cheesy, but very true.

3. Outside of writing, what are your other passions/interests?

I love photography. If anyone is interested in looking at some of my photos you can go to http://katinarose.deviantart.com. I also make collages, my latest project is designing a deck of tarot cards for my friend (which I haven’t finished because I’m constantly writing.)

4. What is your advice to young writers/first time authors?

WRITE! Follow your heart. Trust your characters, sometimes they know what happens before you do. Keep sending out query letters. Don’t give up.

5. What do you want the world to remember you for the most?

I would want to be remembered as a kind, eccentric woman who loved writing more than anything in the world.
