On the way to drop my love off at the AIBA airport yesterday morning I heard an interesting flash of news on the 101X radio station regarding the third installment of the Twilight movie franchise. Apparently, in an effort to reel in the curiosity of the true goth crowd, director of 30 Days of Night and Hard Candy David Slade has cast the one and only former lead singer of Bauhaus, the “Godfather of Goth”, Peter Murphy in a cameo role for Eclipse. According to an article on MTV.com, Murphy’s role will not be that of the Volturi or Cullen clans, but a predecessor of the warring vampire factions.
[His role] started out as an old Spanish, sort of unrelated vampire, in a flashback sequence,” he explained, saying the flashback involves Gil Birmingham’s wheelchair-bound Quileute elder. “Billy Black’s talking and telling the story of the werewolves, how they evolved, and how they met the vampires and stuff. [Murphy's cameo is] in a sequence that involves that.
Even though I am a die-hard Peter Murphy fan and have been so since I could reach the record player, this still may not be enough to drag me in to see Kristen Stewart’s one mopy expression for two hours. I am still completely traumatized by the mind-numbing tragedy that was the first film (my original review). First they cast the amazing Michael Sheen in New Moon and now Peter Murphy? They are really pulling out all of the stops to get the anti-Twi crowd’s hard-earned $8 aren’t they? *shakes fist at Twilight directors in perfect Stephen Colbert fashion “Twiiiillllllliiiiightttttt!!!!!”* Perhaps someone could just snip out the parts with Sheen and Murphy and email them to me, sans Edward and Bella?
In case you’re one of those uber-young goth pups who have never heard of Peter Murphy, here are a couple of his videos. Bow and worship at the alter of the Goth Godfather!
OH NO!

to put such an icone like this on a movie like this is almost a sin!
