Mad Max for the 21st Century?
February 11th, 2008 by Gabrielle Faust received No Comments »I recently read about a new apocalyptic movie called Doomsday on the Bloody Disgusting. Intrigued more by the “It’s still going to suck.” comment left by a user of the site than the actual premise of the movie itself, I decided to venture over to the official page to check out the trailer. This new futuristic action film is by writer and director Neil Marshall, director of my favorite werewolf film Dog Soldiers, and has all of the trappings of a modern day Mad Max, but something makes me hesitant to get excited about it. First of all, despite the cool trailer, it is a rehashed storyline, one of a mutant virus that breaks out in Europe (Scotland, in particular) causing the government to isolate the infected and leave them to die. In Doomsday, after about three decades, the virus reawakens and special military ops must venture into the sealed off portion of the country in order to find a cure. What they find instead is a society that has completely reverted into a psychotic primal world of dirt bike driving, tattooed maniacs. Though the storyline is a bit ho-hum, the movie still has the potential to be an exciting visual ride as it appears to be packed full of explosions, fight scenes and crazy looking people, but it’s hard to say just yet. Marshall has yet to disappoint me, but there’s always a first time. Let’s hope this isn’t it.
The movie is set to hit theaters March 14. To check out the trailer CLICK HERE.
Regardless…this just might have to be my Halloween costume this year. ![]()
