1. What drives you to write?
I’ve always sought some form of creative release, all my life. When I started writing in my late twenties, it gave me a chance to feed this urge on my schedule, and allowed me to be creative in a genre that I loved: horror. The drive in me is innate—there’s no explaining it other than it has become an addiction of sorts, something I need to do. The end result of seeing my work in print is the reward I garner from my hard work.
2. What do you consider to be your most significant accomplishment?
Well, it would have to be the publication of my first novel Atmosphere. If that hadn’t happened, then none of my subsequent works would have ever happened (well, maybe Sleepwalker, my second written book, but that’s it).
3. Outside of writing, what are your other passions/interests?
I love progressive rock music, and love to explore the libraries that many of these very talented bands have to offer. I also love collecting live concerts on DVD, and have a lot of them. I also love to read, and watch great TV shows on DVD. But my number one passion is my two daughters.
4. What is your advice to young writers/first time authors?
Read a lot, try to figure out what made the piece your reading publishable. Write every day if you can. And do not give up, or be discouraged by rejection. I still get rejected all the time, and it doesn’t feel good. But I use that as a springboard to something else.
5. What do you want the world to remember you for the most?
I’d like to think that someday people will look back and say I made a mark on the genre of horror fiction, that folks will be seeking out my books for years to come.
