A continuation of ‘The Vampire Chronicles’?

August 15th, 2009 by Gabrielle Faust received 8 Comments »

UPDATE (8.19.09)
The Vampire Lestat will be the movie produced, if Universal Pictures cements the deal to proceed with the continuation of The Vampire Chronicles. Also, today, the i09 website posted a “blessing” from Anne Rice on Robert Downey Jr.’s bid to play the part of Lestat. Read more here: Lestat’s Mom In Favor Of Iron Vamp Casting

**********

Could it be true? Could the prayers of Anne Rice fans around the world finally be answered with a continuation of the movies based on The Vampire Chronicles bringing our beloved Lestat Du Lioncourt back to the silver screen? Ah, it appears it might be possibly become a reality! Bloody Disgusting confirmed that Universal Pictures is indeed working on reviving the series!

Now, here’s the really interesting part of this news: Robert Downey Jr. is in close talks to play the part of Lestat. I’m honestly having a bit of a hard time picturing this combination. Cruise and Townsend were perfect for the role and any number of actors come to mind for the Lestat of the future from Johnny Depp to Kyle Schmid…but Robert Downey Jr.? Downey is an unbelievably talented and versatile actor so I know he is fully capable of molding himself to any role. I’m just trying to picture him with long blond hair…strange!

Asides from this tidbit of news, Blood Disgusting has been unable to confirm any other information concerning the revitalization of the series. You can trust I will be certain to let you know, however, as soon as I hear more!

No one can do it the justice that my Stuart did but if I tilt my head the right way and squint a bit I can maybe see Bobby in the role…. not my first choice either but he is an amazing actor…. look what he did while filming Less Than Zero… one of my fave movies…. while totally stoned out of his mind the entire time… character acting I think they call it. LOL

Without a doubt the ONLY man to play a perfect Lestat would be Kyle Schmid. He’s been there done that with Blood Ties and he would be the perfect choice. He’s a talented actor and much closer in age to the character. As talented as Robert Downey is he is too OLD for the role.

First, I’m thrilled with the possibility of another Vampire Chronicle movie IF it follows Neil Jordan’s formula. But if they want to give us another steaming pile of shit like they did with The Queen of the Damned, then no, please leave it alone. Damn, that movie was awful from beginning to end, casting to direction to script to editing. Horrible. Especially when compared to such a beautiful film as Interview with the Vampire.

As to Robert Downey, Jr. … Don’t know. I wouldn’t have guessed Tom Cruise could pull it off, but he did. My concern with Downey would be whether or not he’d just be Iron Man with fangs.

Agreed. As much as I loved how pretty a Lestat Townsend made, Queen of the Damned was a bit of a disaster. But you are correct. When I first heard of Cruise taking on the role I was aghast and yet, he was spectacular. I suppose I have seen Downey is just one too many quirky roles to imagine him as Lestat. Hopefully, if he signs on for the project, he will pleasantly surprise us all. I think he’ll realize the extremely high expectations of the fans…

Kyle Schmid would be devine wouldn’t he! ;)

  6. maggiemay says:

Kyle would be perfect for the role as he was dead on in his portrayal of an arrogant aristocrat in Blood Ties. He could expand upon how he developed Henry Fitroy and take the character of Lestat so much farther. Seeing Kyle Schmid in Blood Ties was merely scratching the surface of what this actor can do.

I’ve even heard someone mention Zac Efron, which I know was inevitable, but I don’t think he has the experience to take on this kind of role; and at the risk of insulting his fans I wouldn’t pay money to go see him play Lestat as it would be SO WRONG! But then again I’m partial, I think that Kyle Schmid would be a perfect match to play Lestat.

I think they should perhaps consider a fresher, young face.
I’m thinking of course of Kyle Schmid who portrayed the vampire Henry Fitzroy in tv’s (unfortunately short lived) “Blood Ties”.
He is an as yet to be super famous, but extremely talented young man!
And there’s no denying his appealing and depth as a potential Lestat

Speaking of Kyle Schmid and Vampires, please check this out:

And while he’s waiting to see if that pans out his fans would like to see him as a musketeer:

RE: Kyle Schmid should star as D’Artagnan in the new Three Musketeers Movie.
Our goal is to create a buzz which will show the studios what a huge fan base Kyle hase. WE NEED EACH ONE OF YOU TO help to tweet, post on other facebook pages (with the exception… of Kyle’s for the moment), any and all other Kyle Schmid fan sites, Henry Fitzroy fan sites, and Blood Ties fan sites on the web to ask them to come back to this site* and leave a comment. If we can all work together on this we can show the studios that Kyle would be a perfect fit for this role.
