By Blood We Live
August 12th, 2009 by Gabrielle Faust received 5 Comments »Anthologies are a dime a doze these days and especially when it comes to vampire and zombie short stories. However, today I was perusing the net only to have the cover to By Blood We Live make me do an instant double-take. What a clever cover design, mimicking the famous Lost Boys movie poster that has become an iconic representation of the vampire films of the 1980′s! However, this anthology, which is currently available nationwide, is not merely saved by its fantastic cover. Edited by John Joseph Adams, the collection includes such incredible literary talents as Stephen King , Kelley Armstrong, L. A. Banks, Neil Gaiman, Sergei Lukyanenko, Harry Turtledove, Anne Rice, Joe Hill and Tanith Lee! Anne Rice and Neil Gaiman in the same book? I’m in heaven! Here is a little more, from the official site:
Vampires. They are the most elegant of monsters—ancient, seductive, doomed, deadly. They lurk in the shadows, at your window, in your dreams. They are beautiful as anything you’ve ever seen, but their flesh is cold as the grave, and their lips taste of blood. From Dracula to Twilight, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to True Blood, many have fallen under their spell. Now acclaimed editor John Joseph Adams brings you 33 of the most haunting vampire stories of the past three decades, from some of today’s most renowned authors of fantasy, science fiction, and horror.
Charming gentlemen with the manners of a prior age. Savage killing machines who surge screaming from hidden vaults. Cute little girls frozen forever in slender bodies. Long-buried loved ones who scratch at the door, begging to be let in. Nowhere is safe, not mist-shrouded Transylvania or the Italian Riviera or even a sleepy town in Maine. This is a hidden world, an eternal world, where nothing is forbidden…as long as you’re willing to pay the price.

This looks like a pretty cool anthology! The LOST BOYS! I knew it looked familiar! Nice one.
Great idea to give away scarecrow fangs! I HOPE I WIN
I want to have a Vampire Masked Ball for my 40th BD.
between now and midnigh .
I’ve had my eye on this book, I’ve got a b-day coming up soon, I may just go get it for myself. Especially with tales from Stephen King, Brian Lumley, Anne Rice, David Wellington, Neil Gaiman, damn, every one of them are good!
Stay Scary!
I have been looking at some of the new anthologies and I hope they live up to expectation. Having so many ebooks written as novellas these days I guess this is a way for the established writers to jump into the trend
You can thank the fabulous gal at Vampire Wear for donating the fangs! She rocks, as does her site!
This does look like a great anthology, with a well done/well written cover. And with authors like that for inside content, well, wow.
