Nanerpus vs. Living Dead Hamster
February 28th, 2009 by Gabrielle Faust received 9 Comments »Sometimes ad execs snort a little too much coke while in the last deadline hours of trying to come up with the next catchy pop-culture commercial for their products and often times the result is truly terrifying. Case in point: the recent “Nanerpus” commercial developed by Denny’s for the 2009 Superbowl. Now, the only commercial that comes to mind that is even more truly disturbing, at least to me, is the Quiznos commercial from a few years ago which features strange cutout animations of what appear to be living dead hamsters wearing bowler hats and singing in voices that remind me of the scream the “baby” makes at the end of David Lynch’s Eraserhead. So, my question to you today is, what is scarier/more disturbing? Nanerpus or Living Dead Hamster? I’m leaning towards the hamsters personally…

Both are equally whacked out commercials, though the dead hamsters – and the whole “umm, toasty” thing is disturbing.
I completely agree. Though, after the Superbowl, the image of that banana octopus on strings really haunted my dreams! LOL!
Which is scariest? These odd creatures are merely a distraction; it’s actually the fa-fa-fa-foo-oo-oo-od.
I need to go into the advertising business. Both were completely whacked. Though the second one was a little bit more disturbing. Could be that I don’t like Quiznos at all also.
LOL! Yes, I’m sure that doesn’t help.
No, I think they’re trying to make us think we’re going insane. Luckily for me that happened years ago. LOL! I just remember the first time I saw the Quiznos commercial, about 7 years ago, I was alone in my house watching tv and for a second I thought I was having a bad flashback of some sort. I sat there for a while going “What the hell was that? Did I really just see that or am I hallucinating?”!
To many people are trying to drive us all crazy. Like you I have no worries since I lost it many years ago also
‘Nannerpuss rocks! Well, I am a little creeped out by him squirming around on a stack of pancakes someone will presumably eat. But I’m deeply disturbed by those screeching and levitating hamsters.
And I think we can safely add the cell phone ad using talking pigs eating ham and discussing it to the list of creepy ads released this year. Seriously, ad guys have lost their filters on bad ideas…
